Biography
Alexander Wienand is a versatile pianist and composer who feels equally at home in both classical and jazz music, seamlessly combining the two in his concert programs. His discography includes jazz projects featuring his own compositions as well as classical recordings, among them a complete recording of Francis Poulenc’s works for two pianos with Eva May. Raised in Calw, the pianist began leading his own projects at an early age and is now featured at international festivals. Wienand has been awarded the Bavarian Art States Grant twice and has received support from the German Association of Musicians, the German Music Life Foundation, the NRW Cultural Secretariat, and the Berlin Senate. In his adopted home of Berlin, alongside his university teaching activities, Wienand is involved in musical integration work in the Neukölln district, where he heads the jazz department at the Paul Hindemith Music School.
